Ballet Uniform and Appearance: Students at The Academy of Ballet Chigwell are required to wear the correct ABC uniform for class. The school supplies the correct uniform and parents are required purchase full uniform from the school, please order from your teacher with the correct size. Upon order we usually have your uniform for the following class, this is dependant of availability. Why do we have a school uniform? The simple leotard, tights, and skirt combination makes it possible for the teacher to see the dancer’s bodies so they can make appropriate corrections. Ballet shoes are imperative to allow your child to dance safely and also learn to use their feet correctly. Examination boards require uniform for examination entry. Long hair needs to be tied in a bun to prevent hair falling over the eyes. Young dancers are sometimes distracted by their own dance wear. Large skirts and/or tutus sometimes become the dancer’s focus instead of the teacher. Learning to dance and work together as a team can be more easily achievedby removing the distraction of different dance wear. Instructors are able to choreograph dances more easily when the dancers are dressed the same.
Behaviour and Decorum: Ballet is a great way for children to learn not only how dance can be a lot of fun, but also the important lesson of discipline and good behaviour. This is highly encouraged to allow all students to focus and improve during classes. We may ask you to briefly take your child out of the room if they are creating a distraction for the other children.
We reserve the right to expel any child who is continuously badly behaved or is proving to be a distraction to other students.
Parents who are watching the baby ballet classes are politely asked to refrain from talking and are asked to switch mobile phones to silent. All calls must be answered outside the studio. Food is not permitted inside the studio. All rules are in place to assist your children’s learning and enjoyment of Ballet and to help maximise their levels of improvement.
Class Protocol: Parents are welcome to watch their child's first dance class with us. If your child is 2-3 years old you are welcome but not required to watch every class. For children aged 4 years and over, we kindly request that after the first class you leave the studio. This is so that your child can stay focused in a safe and fun environment, learning dependence and how to learn with other children. However, we will accept a few parents in the room each class but please be reminded it must remain quiet to enable the children to learn without distraction. You are kindly requested to arrive 5 minutes before the end of the class to pick up your child once the class has finished.
Equal Opportunties: The ABC School welcomes all dance students regardless of age, gender, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation. In addition, we welcome students of all levels of ability and experience.
Policies: The school has a zero tolerance on bullying policy to ensure every student feels safe, happy and protected in class .
